1. Renault Zoe


Undeniably one of the biggest talking points of the 2012 will be the production-ready debut of Renault’s  most exciting electric model  the Zoe. it is stylish, family-friendly supermini and is expected to cost around £15,000 (after the £5,000 plug-in car grant), making it the most affordable EV yet .



There’s rumours that the car could even offer a range of 200 miles plus range in a potential second-generation model, meaning it is likely to attract a hell of a lot more consumer interest .

   2. BMW i electric cars

   Another very exciting debut could be a prototype i5. It is just a rumour at the moment , but it is thought that the German brand could be about to reveal a new model for its ‘i’ ‘Born Electric’ range. The i5 is reportedly a compact MPV model that could launch in 2015, to complement BMW’s first two electric models; the i3 electric supermini and the i8 plug-in hybrid roadster. But even if the story proves false, Geneva will still give us a chance to see the i3 and i8 as the models progress towards production.

3. Hyundai i-onic

 Hyundai is to reveal the i-onic; a sexy new range-extended sports hatchback that has a range of around 75 miles on electric power alone, with a petrol engine to boost the range to 435 miles, producing just 45 g/km of CO2 (see story). There will also be the debut of a new i20 model that promises emissions as low as 84 g/km of CO2, making it the cleanest combustion car yet.

 4. Toyota  Yaris Hybrid

 As Toyota prepares to launch Yaris hybrid, we’ll see the final finished model before it launches this summer. There will also be a new FT-BH concept car (Future Toyota B-segment Hybrid) that promises to be as spacious as an average five-door supermini but produce about half the emissions, due to its hybrid drivetrain and featherweight construction. Expected to weigh around 800kg, the new FT-BH weighs less than a three-door Aygo. ).

 5. BMW 1 Series

 A new EfficientDynamics version of the popular 1 Series will see BMW join the sub-100g/km CO2 club. Using a 1.6litre 116hp diesel which features BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology, the new model will achieve economy of 62mpg with CO2 emissions at just 99g/km. Expect it to be very popular with fleets and personal customers alike.

 6. Ford B-Max

 Ford promises that the new B-Max will feature a range of downsized and optimised engines that mean the compact family vehicle will deliver best in class fuel economy in both petrol and diesel categories. The B-Max with a 1.0 litre 120ps EcoBoost petrol engine will offer 114g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 57.6mpg while a 1.6-litre TDCi diesel engine will allow the B-Max to emit just 104g/km CO2 emissions and achieve 70.6mpg. The new car arrives in UK this September.

 7. Nissan Invitation


Nissan intends l a newB-segment prototype car it is calling Invitation. It’s more than a concept. Nissan has already announced that the model will launch in the UK in 2013, and will sit between the Micra and Juke in the model range.
To suit modern families, the model is expected to offer outstanding fuel economy, by combining lightweight design, aerodynamic shape and efficient engines. Expected to hit the sub-100g/km CO2 target, the Invitation will wear the Nissan Pure Drive badge.

 8. Honda Fourth Generation CR-V


Honda brings with it a veritable feast of green plans and future models. The first worth mentioning is its new Earth Dreams Technology, similar to Mazda’s Skyactiv Technologies, that is designed to maximise fuel economy and performance from combustion engines. A new 1.6 litre diesel developed under the new optimisation strategy generates 120PS and achieves a max torque of 300Nm at 2000rpm. There will also be the European debut of the new hybrid sportcar NSX Concept, expected to go on sale within the next three years. Another European first will be the debut of the fully electric, two seat roadster; the EV-ster. This rear-wheel sportscar uses a 10kWh lithium ion battery with 79bhp to deliver a range of around 100miles to a charge and a 0-60mph time of around five seconds.
The new fourth generation CR-V, set to go on sale in Autumn 2012 will also appear along with two new Jazz derivatives. The Jazz 1.2 with Idle Stop, delivers a reduction in CO2 emissions of 3g/km compared to the standard 1.2 variant, giving it a rating of 120g/km CO2. It will available to order in Spring.

 9. Suzuki G70


 Suzuki will reveal a new lightweight small petrol car concept called G70, expected to emit as little as 70g/km CO2-which would make it by far the cleanest petrol car available on the mainstream market if it ever launches. But that’s not all, the plucky little brand will also show the result of some tinkering it has done to the Swift Range-Extender concept to make the model even greener. The Japanese car maker has doubled the car’s all-electric range to 30km.

 10. Volvo V40

Volvo’s new premium small hatchback, the V40 makes its debut in Geneva and promises to bring key Volvo values into this competitive market. Namely safety and efficiency. Expected to emit as little as 94 g/km CO2, the new V40 is also being announced as the Swedish car maker’s ‘most intelligent and safe’ model yet. Expected to be packed with safety systems, the V40 will help the driver “stay alert and well informed to avoid collisions and dangerous situations” as HÃ¥kan Abrahamsson, V40 Vehicle Programme Manager hints.
